2025 Koko; Lot #159, Washed - Ethiopia
Tasting Notes
Description
This is our first year working with the Koko site in the Bona region of Sidama. All the cherry for this lot was collected from extremely high elevations and carefully curated by our exporting partners at Elto. In the cup we find stone fruit, Key lime, and watermelon. ABOUT KOKO LOT #159 This is a beautiful washed coffee from the extreme elevations of Bona, Sidama. We want to extend our sincere thanks to Elto, our exporting partner, for the incredible work that made this lot possible. Micro lot separations have long posed challenges in Ethiopia, and the work Elto is doing to enable them is nothing short of inspiring. It is an honor to work with such a unique and special coffee. ABOUT ETHIOPIAN LANDRACE Ethiopia is widely acknowledged as where coffee originated, and its production continues to represent a significant part of the country’s economy. DNA testing has confirmed over 60 distinct varieties growing in Ethiopia, making it home to the most coffee biodiversity of any region in the world. Given the tradition of coffee production in Ethiopia and the political interworkings of the Ethiopian coffee trade, it is virtually impossible to get single variety coffee lots from Ethiopia. This is changing, albeit very slowly. Most Ethiopian coffees are blends of the many Ethiopian varieties, and referred to simply as 'Ethiopian Landrace'.
