Sul De Minas
Tasting Notes
Description
We have selected an Arara varietal from Inácio Urban, prized for its high yield and nuanced cup: dark chocolate & sweet cherry. The Arara variety grows at 1,000 to 1,150 metres above sea level on Rio Brilhante, a 1,755-hectare farm run by Inácio Urban and his family. Of this land, 840 hectares are devoted to coffee, while 566 are preserved, supporting both the environment and the local community through 87 permanent and 199 seasonal jobs. A natural mutation of Obatá and Yellow Icatu, Arara is prized for its high yield, pest resistance and exceptional cup quality. Often called the “Brazilian Gesha,” it has achieved scores of 90 points and above in BSCA competitions. This coffee comes from Sul de Minas, Brazil, grown by Inácio Urban on Fazenda Rio Brilhante. The farm sits at 900–1,150 metres above sea level, with gently rolling terrain and an average annual rainfall of around 1,500 mm. The cherries are handpicked and sorted, then fermented for 48 hours under aerobic conditions. They are sun-dried on concrete patios for 15 days, developing a clean, expressive profile.
