Description
Carlos Quiñonez is a coffee farmer from the municipality of Bolívar, Cauca. Although he had little experience in coffee farming at the beginning, his dream, along with his twin brother's, is to produce a different kind of coffee, one that goes beyond the traditional: a specialty coffee. He believes that producing coffee is an art in which one learns something new every day. He currently works with different methods to obtain a coffee that reflects the richness of his region, and his goal is for each cup to tell the story of Bolívar and the effort of those who cultivate it with their hearts. This year, we took part in the Subasta por la Paz 2025 (Auction for Peace) held in Bolívar, a small town south of the Cauca department. This was not just another coffee auction; it was a social event focused on farming sustainability and peace-building. Coffee acts as a catalyst, bringing producers and buyers from all around the world together to create a positive and hopefully lasting impact on the many lives involved with coffee. News of this event spread across communities, and producers were eager to submit their fresh harvests for the new year, hoping to land the top spot as the No.1 coffee in the department. The auction was lively, with the entire town and many from surrounding areas joining in to share the excitement and to see who would be this year’s winners. Together with the panel of international judges, we all enjoyed it as reflected in the final score of 88 points, ranking #6 in the regional coffee competition. In the end, we also won the bid for this coffee - Elegant, sweet and complex - a beautiful coffee......
