Guacamaya
Tasting Notes
Description
This distinctive coffee was produced by second-generation farmer Nery Pablo López on his farm, Guacamaya. Nery has lived on this beautiful, hill-framed property for his entire life – and has spent much of that time working in coffee. His father, Lauriano Pablo, first established Guamaya as a coffee farm, and when Nery was only twenty years old its management was passed on to him. Father and son continue to practice traditional coffee cultivation techniques, selling it to the El Sendero Cooperative, who provide resources, training and a channel for the Pablo family to sell their coffee to speciality coffee buyers, and to build the farm’s reputation. The family have benefited from joining the cooperative – they now earn a better income and have developed a greater sense of connection and pride in their place as producers. As Nery told us, “We care about coffee because we get to meet you, we get to meet the people who drink our coffee.”
