This coffee has been grown in the Quindio region of Colombia. After harvesting, the beans are sent to Swiss Water Decaf in Vancouver, Canada. Here, they’re decaffeinated using a unique, 100% chemical-free process that gently removes caffeine with pure water. This method involves soaking the beans in a special Green Coffee Extract (GCE). The caffeine naturally leaves the beans and moves into the GCE. This mixture then flows through carbon filters, which trap the caffeine. The GCE is refreshed and reused, and the process is carefully monitored for 10 hours until the coffee is 99.9% caffeine-free. This coffee also contributes to the Crecer Project, ran by Racafe. This project was introduced in 2020 as Racafe’s internal sustainability standard, it’s aim is to conserve both biodiversity of the environment and the communities who live and cultivate coffee within those environments. Decaf coffee doesn’t have to be boring, and this decaf showcases that. With tasting notes of dark chocolate, white grape, green apple and a lovely brown sugar sweetness to round it out. At Alchemy we put as much effort into finding the right decaf as we do with the rest of our range. As coffee that has gone through this process tends to age quicker, we make an effort to buy only lots that have very recently landed in UK.
